Doctor Andrew Turner Endowment Fund for Scottish Harp
The Dr. Andrew Turner Family Endowment Fund for Scottish Harp was created and established in 2010 by his daughter Gail Turner. Donations from family, friends and harpists were solicited to raise the $10,000.00 needed to establish the fund. Additional donations are needed to grow the fund. The fund provides monies for: the harp competition and the Harper of the Day Trophy (which was given by Andy until his death in 2004 and continued by his wife and daughter) at the Ohio Scottish Games, the Dr. Andrew Turner Memorial Scholarship (which is available through application) and the Dr. Turner Scholarship to the Ohio Scottish Arts School (which is given to two deserving harp students at the school by the teachers). In five (5) years the fund has grown to $24,000.00. However, to continue funding all of these activities additional donations to the fund are needed. I ask that you consider making a donation either through the PayPal account or by sending a check directly to me (Gail Turner), which will then be sent to the fund at the Cleveland Foundation.
The love of harp was my father’s favorite part of his Scottish heritage. It became mine, too. I went to the Ohio Scottish Arts School in 2012 and made my own wire strung harp. I spent the next two years learning how to read music and play the harp. I competed as a beginner in 2014 (at the age of 61) at the Ohio Scottish Games and took 1st place and won the Mary Young Most Promising Beginner Trophy. Just goes to show you that you can teach an old dog new tricks.
I thank you in advance for any donation that you feel comfortable in giving.
